The assessment comes first

01The approach

A serious decision deserves a considered pathway

Bariatric care is not a single procedure or a short-term intervention. It begins with a full understanding of health history, previous attempts at weight management, metabolic risk, daily life, and readiness for sustained change.

Assessment before intervention

Not every candidate requires surgery, and not every procedure is suitable for every candidate. Your consultation is designed to clarify the medical picture, explain the available pathways, and establish whether treatment is appropriate.

Surgical and non-surgical pathways

Depending on clinical suitability, care may include structured non-surgical management or bariatric procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. The benefits, limitations, risks, recovery, and long-term responsibilities of each option are explained in full before any decision is made.

02Scope of care

What we address

Obesity and excess weight

Medical assessment and structured pathways for candidates whose weight is affecting health, function, or quality of life.

Metabolic conditions

Consideration of weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and other metabolic risks as part of the wider clinical picture.

Weight-related mobility and joint strain

Care planning that considers mobility, joint symptoms, physical limitations, and the effect of weight on daily function.

Repeated unsuccessful weight-management attempts

Evidence-based options for candidates who have not achieved a durable outcome through previous approaches.

Post-pregnancy weight concerns

Private assessment of weight, metabolic health, timing, and suitability for structured medical or surgical support.

Long-term weight management

Follow-up, nutritional guidance, medical review, and ongoing support designed to protect the outcome beyond the initial intervention.

Care beyond the procedure

A bariatric outcome depends on more than the day of surgery. Follow-up, nutrition, medical monitoring, behavioural adjustment, and timely clinical review form part of the pathway from the beginning.

Your bariatric consultation

The consultation covers medical history, weight history, existing conditions, previous interventions, current medication, and personal goals. You will receive a clear explanation of suitability, alternatives, expected outcomes, risks, recovery, and the follow-up required.

Bariatrics FAQs

Suitability is based on more than weight alone. Your clinician will consider BMI, metabolic health, existing conditions, previous weight-management attempts, surgical risk, and readiness for long-term follow-up.

Bariatric surgery is established medical practice, but every operation carries risk. Your individual risk, the proposed procedure, alternatives, and expected recovery will be discussed before a recommendation is made.

There is no single procedure that is right for everyone. The recommendation depends on clinical history, eating patterns, metabolic conditions, anatomy, previous surgery, and long-term needs.

Recovery varies by procedure and individual health. Your surgeon will explain the likely hospital stay, return to work, activity progression, dietary stages, and warning signs requiring review.

Outcomes vary. Your clinician will discuss realistic ranges, the factors that influence them, and the ongoing changes required to protect the result.

Follow-up is an essential part of bariatric care and may include surgical review, nutritional monitoring, blood tests, medication review, and long-term clinical support.
